The lighthouse is only accessible during schedule tours. The best viewing place for Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse is from Great Island Common in New Castle.
About Us
Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse was first established in June 1771, making it the first light station north of Boston in the American colonies. Today’s 48-foot tower was built in 1878.
Cared for by the Friends of Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse, a chapter of the American Lighthouse Foundation, this icon of the New Hampshire seacoast is a must see for locals and visitors alike!
