About Us

The Library Restaurant is an upscale steakhouse and elegant private events space in a historic building in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, where seven presidents have dined! Built in 1887, the Library is one of the North East’s most architecturally beautiful dining experiences.

The Library’s home is in the grand historic Rockingham Hotel—just steps from the center of downtown Portsmouth. The dining rooms boast an original vaulted mahogany ceiling, three crackling fireplaces, a martini lounge, a seasonal outside dining oasis, and a beautiful private dining space under an ornate original painted ceiling fresco, perfect for celebrations.

The Library also offers an in-house florist for beautiful décor and take-home memories for special occasions, and jazz on Wednesday nights!
