From the genius mind of Hamilton scribe Lin-Manuel Miranda comes In the Heights, his first musical smash hit about a lively and rapidly changing neighborhood in Manhattan set to Tony-Award winning blend of hip-hop, traditional Broadway, and Latin music. In the Heights tells the universal story of a vibrant community in New York’s Washington Heights neighborhood – a place where the coffee from the corner bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music. It’s a community on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams and pressures, where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions you take with you, and which ones you leave behind. IN THE HEIGHTS is the winner of the 2008 Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Score, Best Choreography and Best Orchestrations. Usnavi is a struggling Dominican owner of a bodega that acts as the cornerstone of his small, mostly hispanic community. He cares for the elderly woman next door, pines after Vanessa who works at the salon next door, and not-so-quietly dreams of returning to the Dominican Republic. Meanwhile, Nina is back after failing out of Stanford and isn’t quite sure how to break the news to her family and friends. Featuring a diverse cast, full band, and unique staging, we’re pleased to be the first theatre to bring a professional production of In the Heights on the Seacoast.
