Description
Sebastian Baverstam, cellist and composer, has been praised by critic Dennis Rooney in The Strad for his “… powerfully expressive style” and his “… consummate instrumental mastery.” His study of the cello started at age 4. He offered his first full recital at the age of six at Harvard University and his first concerto with orchestra at the age of seven. In 2002 at the age of fourteen, he made his Weill Hall debut at Carnegie Hall. Sebastian has performed widely both in the U.S. and abroad. A winner of the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s Concerto Competition, Mr. Baverstam performed the Shostakovich Concerto with the BSO at Symphony Hall.
Violinist Jean Huang Baverstam strives to make her performances especially colorful and engaging for the audience. In 2022, The Boston Musical Intelligencer wrote, “Our eyes and ears concentrated on the elegant and outgoing Huang. With both serious attitude and a million-dollar smile, she gave a riveting account of the 28-minute ‘Turkish’ concerto.” Huang Baverstam earned a Doctoral of Musical Arts degree from the New England Conservatory. She has performed throughout the United States and internationally. Pianist Constantine Finehouse, is a native of St. Petersburg, Russia, and has been praised by Rhein Main Presse Allgemeine Zeitung for his “interpretations of depth and maturity.” He attended New England Conservatory, Juilliard and Yale. The concert is the Athenaeum's gift to its membership and to the community at large, although contributions will be gratefully accepted at the door.
