In what has become a holiday week tradition at The Players’ Ring, Discovering Magic with Andrew Pinard will return with five shows December 28-30. Celebrating its fifth year at The Players’ Ring, this popular holiday event is an exploration of magic, science, perception, and deception. See amazing sleight of hand, learn nefarious con games, and experience cognitive dissonance that will make you appreciate the wonder that is the human mind. Come out, celebrate, have a great time, meet some new people and maybe, just maybe, learn a little something as well. After experiencing the show last season, Jeanné McCartin of Seacoast Online wrote that Andrew Pinard’s "show is more akin to that of a tempered Victorian parlor artist, up close and intimate, but with a decidedly contemporary take, and lots of humor. ... He’ll perform the classic shell game while playing his audience, and openly challenging them to watch, think and question their expectations. And, that’s how he rolls throughout the show. ... Pinard is a showman with an engaging presence. ... There’s lots of sleight of hand, seemingly psychic or supernatural bits, and some truly mesmerizing feats. The sleight of hand is coupled with interesting historical tidbits, storytelling, audience participation and laughs. ... The magic is there, but the real key to this show is Pinard’s warmth, his skill at insinuating a sense of friendship. He’s just ribbing buddies, showing off a few tricks, pulling everyone together." This ever-evolving "mind-numbing, jaw-dropping, eye-opening" experience takes audiences on a guided tour of the impossible and the absurd. Using only the most ordinary of objects, accomplished actor, conjuror, puppeteer, storyteller, and award-winning performer Andrew Pinard brings the ordinary to life with the most surprising results. The only show of its kind in the New England, audiences have traveled from throughout New England and beyond to experience sleight of hand, con games, psychology, history, science, comedy, cognitive development, political spin, and more through the eyes of a "perceptual engineer" on his quest to explore distortion and guile. There are only five performances, so get your tickets today as this event regularly sells out. Absolutely Magic is celebrating more than twenty-six years creating and producing magical entertainment around the world. Andrew Pinard has received many awards for his work; most recently the Vision & Tenacity award at the 2017 NH Theatre Awards.
