DESCRIPTION:Classical guitarist An Tran performs a free concert of classical music as part of the free Guitar Sundays series. \n\nThis event is free and open to the public and audiences of all ages! No registration necessary. \n\nArtist Sponsor: Augustine Foundation \n\n \n\nAbout An Tran\n\nHailed by The Boston Globe for his "subtle\, graceful virtuosity" and described as a "Vietnamese Guitar Virtuoso" by Austin Classical Guitar\, guitarist An Tran continues to impress audiences with his innate musicality and dynamic artistry.\n\nBorn and raised in Hanoi\, Vietnam\, An Tran won 1st prize of the Vietnam National Guitar Competition at the age of 12. He has won 13 international guitar competitions since 2010. He received his early musical training at the Vietnam National Academy of Music. He has completed his Master of Music from Yale University and is recently received a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Northwestern University.\n\nAn signed a recording contract with Naxos recording label and released the album "Napole on Coste: Guitar Works\, Vol. 6" in June 2023. His performance received acclaim from the American Record Guide\, which praised his "immaculate ornaments and cultivated sense of phrasing". His debut album\, entitled "Stay\, My Beloved"\, was included in the 2020 "Recordings of the Year" by Chicago Tribune and was praised by Classical Guitar Magazine as "an unforgettable journey to a world you've probably never been to" with "highly virtuosic passages that display what a gifted guitarist An Tran truly is."\n\nHe is currently the guitar professor at Roosevelt University's Chicago College of Performing Arts\, University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) and Northern Illinois University (NIU).
