Description
The Seacoast Science Center celebrates its 25th anniversary on Saturday, September 9 with a special day of family fun and learning that will be free and open to the public. The day’s activities will include live stage shows by the Octonauts, learning stations, live music, games and crafts for kids, and free refreshments. The day will conclude with a proclamation from the Governor’s office, declaring September 9 as Seacoast Science Center Ocean Education Day, followed by a reception honoring the Center’s founding president, Wendy Lull. The day is being held as a thank-you to the community for supporting the Center’s mission of ocean education since 1992.
The 25th Anniversary Free Family Fun Day is scheduled to run from 9 am – 3 pm both inside and outside the Seacoast Science Center. Under the Center’s seaside event tent, Octonauts characters Captain Barnacles and Kwazii will perform at 9:30 am, 11:00 am and 12:30 pm, with meet-and-greet sessions following the first two shows. The UNH Marine Docent Sea Shanty Singers will entertain guests at from 10-10:45 am, and the band Granite Planet will take the stage at 1:15 pm. In between these performances, there will be dance parties led by the Center’s seal and lobster mascots, hands-on science exploration, crafts, games and story readings by local authors. Partner organizations will also be on hand to offer activities and information related to the ocean environment. Free popcorn and cotton candy will be available, and additional refreshments will be for sale from food trucks.
The Seacoast Science Center is located in Odiorne Point State Park at 570 Ocean Boulevard (Rte. 1A), Rye. To learn more, visit www.seacoastsciencecenter.org.
